ACTOR, SINGER, PLAYWRIGHT
Renae Erichsen-Teal is a professional actor, singer, and playwright based in the D.C. Metro area. She most recently performed in The Washington Chorus' 2019-2020 season and will return for their 2020-2021 season. In summer 2019, Renae, in collaboration with Sarah Pultz, workshopped her new play Now to Ashes as a staged reading at the Kennedy Center's 2019 Page to Stage Festival. Other recent credits include Story District's He Said, She Said, They Said and Theatre Prometheus' production of Abortion Road Trip for the Kennedy Center's Page-To-Stage Festival and the Capital Fringe Festival, where it was the Winner of the Best Comedy Award and her performance was described as "warm and winning" by the Washington Post. She was previously seen in Theatre Prometheus' production of [gay] Cymbeline as the Queen/Belarius, as well as Rainbow Theatre Project's DOMA Diaries as Janice, a role she premiered in DC's 2016 Capital Fringe Festival. Other DC music credits include the In Series' productions of Gilbert & Sullivan's operetta Trial by Jury and Aaron Copland's opera The Tender Land. While based in Houston, TX, Renae joined the Houston Symphony Chorus for their 2014-2015 Season, as well as performed Long Form Improv with Station Theater. She traveled to London summer 2014 to work as an actor for the London Film School and Pink Banana Studios.
Renae graduated with a double major from Christopher Newport University in May 2014, completing a B.A. in Acting and B.M. in Vocal Performance. Renae received training in various techniques, including Linklater, Meisner, and Shurtleff. Additionally, she trained in Classical Acting, providing her with a grounding in the understanding and performance of heightened language. She received her SAFD certified Basic Pass in Unarmed , Rapier/Dagger, and Broadsword in stage combat. TheatreCNU’s rich program offered Renae many performance opportunities. She appeared in main stage and second stage productions, including Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore, Amanda in For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls, and Hanna Kennedy in Schiller’s Mary Stuart. She appeared in TheatreCNU’s Fall 2013 main stage Ah, Wilderness! as Lily Miller. Renae is continued her training at Studio Theatre Conservatory under the tutelage of Kate Debelack.
The Department of Music at Christopher Newport University gave her equally valuable training in classical voice and musical theatre under the instruction of Dr Rachel Holland. In 2011, Renae received 2nd Place in the Virginia District NATS Freshman/Sophomore Music Theater Division, and Spring 2012, she debuted in OperaCNU’s Die Fledermaus as Prince Orlofsky.
